Blended Beginnings

Hello, my name is Yohannes Petros. I am the creator and owner of Hanes Hummus, locally made in Ontario, your source for authentic gourmet hummus across Canada. This is how Hanes Hummus went from the tiny kitchen in my home to your dinner table.
My family and I immigrated to Canada from East Africa in 1980. I was raised in an immigrant family whose home was a central hub for our community. Food and meals were an essential gathering for everyone there. My parents decided early on that our small home in Saskatoon, SK, would be the central safe haven for gatherings in the growing Eritrean community. My mother and her sisters would cook food in that tiny kitchen for dozens of other families to share.
From that point on, I have always been a Western Canadian AND an East African, shaped and influenced by the very best of what each culture has to offer.

I Got it From My Mama

Following in my mother’s footsteps, my tiny kitchen became the hub for social connections shared over good food. More importantly, good hummus.

Each visit, each dinner party, and each moment shared had variations of hummus that I would blend up in my food processor because it brought my friends joy. Each time they would exclaim, “Yohannes, this is too good not to share with everyone! You need to get this into local stores!”

This was the beginning, but it is not the end. This is how my side hobby became my career.
